The Pekoe Trail, Tea Country

The Pekoe Trail is a 22-stage long-distance walking route through Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, connecting Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella. In the Tea Country section, hikers pass through rolling tea plantations, historic estates, mountain forests, rural villages, and scenic highland landscapes. Nuwara Eliya is a useful base for exploring the trail’s central stages and the surrounding tea-growing region.

The journey can be made by train, bus, or private vehicle; the coastal railway and main road generally follow the shoreline, although travel times vary considerably with traffic.
