Bodrum

Bodrum is a picturesque city on the southwestern coast of Turkey, situated on the Bodrum Peninsula in Muğla Province on the Turquoise Coast (Aegean Sea). Known for its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, whitewashed buildings, and rich ancient history, Bodrum was once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. The city is also famous for the 15th-century Castle of St. Peter (Bodrum Castle), a well-preserved Crusader fortress. A popular summer playground for the Turkish jet-set and international visitors alike, Bodrum combines a French Riviera-style sophistication with an authentic Aegean character. The surrounding peninsula is dotted with charming fishing villages, marinas, and beaches ranging from the lively shores of Gumbet to the upscale resort town of Türkbükü, often called the St. Tropez of Turkey. Bodrum has a vibrant and gay-friendly reputation relative to other Turkish destinations, with a variety of LGBTQ+-welcoming bars, clubs, and beach areas, particularly along Bar Street (Barlar Sokağı) and in the nearby town of Gumbet.

Bencik Bay / Selimiye

Bencik Bay and Selimiye are two adjoining highlights on Turkey's Turquoise Coast in the Marmaris District of Muğla Province. Bencik Bay is a serene, fjord-like cove with a distinctive narrow entrance that shelters its calm, crystal-clear waters from open-sea swells, flanked by dense green forest on both sides. It holds historical significance dating to 550 BC, when the people of ancient Knidos famously attempted to dig a canal here to halt the Persian invasion — an effort that ultimately failed. Today the bay is a favourite anchorage on Blue Cruise (gulet) itineraries, prized for swimming, snorkelling and peaceful overnight stays. A short sail away, Selimiye is a charming traditional fishing village with a relaxed waterfront atmosphere, small restaurants and modest guesthouses, offering an authentic glimpse of Aegean coastal life well away from the busier resort towns.

Centuries ago the town began as a leper colony, but thanks to its mild, tropical climate many residents thrived and lived long lives. Today it is a quaint beach community prized for its tranquil bays, crystal-clear waters, and a remarkably well-preserved old town whose roots trace back to the 11th century BC. The town is known for its local vineyards producing rare Turkish vintages, its relaxed atmosphere, and its proximity to the ancient city of Knidos at the tip of the peninsula. Datça serves as a popular stop on Turquoise Coast sailing itineraries, offering visitors a blend of historical exploration, beach relaxation, and authentic Aegean culture.

İnceburun Bay / Knidos

İnceburun Bay offers crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and anchoring, while nearby Knidos is a celebrated archaeological site renowned for its advancements in science, mathematics, and architecture in antiquity. Knidos is notably where the astronomer and mathematician Eudoxus invented the original sun clock — a device proposing that celestial bodies follow fixed paths through space.
